The 2008 U.S. Open Golf Championship will be held at the Torrey Pines South Golf Course in San Diego. Torry Pines is only the second minicipal golf course to host the U.S. Open in the 104 year history of the event. The course is located on the coastal bluffs overlooking the Pacific Ocean in the La Jolla area, 15 miles north of San Diego. It is one of the newest courses to hold a U.S. Open Golf Championship. Opened in 1957, Torrey Pines has hosted the San Diego PGA Tour Stop since 1968. The course was renovated and lengthened to over 7600 yards in 2002 by architect Rees Jones and will play the longest in U.S. Open golf history.
