The
U.S. Open Golf Championship is returning to The Olympic Club in San Francisco
in 2012. This 150 year old athletic club added the Lakeside Golf Club to its
facilities in 1918 and hosted its first U.S. Open in 1955. Unknown Jack Fleck
defeated the legendary Ben Hogan in a playoff at the Olympic Club's first Open.
The 2012 Open will be the fifth for The Olympic Club where championships have become
famous for who didn't win rather than who did. In 1966, Arnold Palmer endured
one of the legendary collapses in golf history losing to Billy Casper after leading
by seven strokes with nine holes to play. Scott Simpson's defeat of Tom Watson
in 1987 and Lee Janzen's defeat of Payne Stewart in 1998 added to Olympics U.S. Open
list of famous second place finishes.
Plan a trip with TeamGolf to the U.S. Open Golf Championship in 2012 and see if a
future Hall of Fame golfer can finally prevail.
